Jacques Villeneuve: We don't know what's going on at Cadillac.

Jacques Villeneuve knows from his own experience the difficulties a new Formula 1 team has to face, even if it is created on the basis of an existing one, as happened in 1999 with the BAR project, which was built on the legendary Tyrrell. It is enough to recall that in its debut season BAR did not score a single point.

In an interview with RacingNews365, the 1997 world champion shared his thoughts on what awaits Cadillac F1 in its debut season.

"Who knows what's going on with them? – the Canadian pondered. – This is no longer the same team it was a year ago – the whole project has undergone changes, forced ones and not for the better. But, at least, the team will appear in the championship, and that's already something.

The question is what are they going to do? Which drivers will they choose?.. If you look at what is being done at Sauber in the context of Audi's arrival, the team is led by Jonathan Wheatley, and we are already seeing results, even though their car has remained the same. But you can see the energy with which they are working, so it's quite reasonable to expect that they will achieve success.

As for what is happening at Cadillac, we do not know yet. They say they want to hire experienced drivers, but everyone wants to hire good, experienced drivers. On the other hand, we have no idea which engines will be effective in 2026. For now, that's a big question…

Much depends on how much money they are willing to spend. After all, if a new team wants to hire one of the real drivers, it will have to spend seriously. However, considering how highly Formula 1 shares are valued now, even large sums are small change compared to what it used to be."
