Perez: My replacements have scored five points this season.
Sergio Pérez had a contract with Red Bull Racing for 2025, but the team terminated it early, having judged the Mexican driver's results to be insufficient. This season his replacements, Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, have scored a total of five points across fourteen races, and Sergio, who will return to Formula 1 with Cadillac in 2026, said that he doesn't have anything to prove, given the results of Max Verstappen's teammates.
Sergio Pérez: "I feel that I don't have anything to prove. And that's not only because of the results of the current drivers who replaced me, but also because of the results I achieved in the past.
Everyone has forgotten about that now, but I had a very difficult job; I constantly had to adapt and regain my confidence. I had a unique challenge.
I don't think I have anything to prove, considering how many points they have scored. If I'm not mistaken, just five points for the whole season."
Answering the question of what interested him about Cadillac's offer, Pérez said: "It was very important to me to spend some time away from the sport after it became clear at the end of last year that I would not continue my collaboration with Red Bull. Instead of trying at all costs to stay on the grid, I needed to step away from the sport for a while and understand what I really want in the next stage of my career.
At the very beginning I didn't have an obvious answer. For the first few months I didn't know what I wanted to do next. But the more I talked with Cadillac, the clearer it became that this is what inspires me. It's not just about getting back on the grid and fighting for points and podiums. It's about building an entire project, and there's a different dynamic here.
I'm coming back to enjoy the sport I love and that has given me so much. I couldn't afford to leave the way I did, and so I'm returning with a new project. I hope it will be very successful. But above all I want to enjoy this return."
