Stroll: It's awful that it all ended like this.
Qualifying in Zandvoort for Lance Stroll ended in a crash. On his very first flying lap the Canadian ran two wheels onto the grass, the car spun and slammed into the barrier. His experienced teammate Fernando Alonso made it to the final and qualified tenth.
Fernando Alonso (10th): "Every weekend we strive to reach the qualifying final, and we're happy we managed it today, but there's a feeling that compared to yesterday we lacked speed. Overtaking in Zandvoort is difficult; we'll see what we can achieve starting from tenth place. I hope to score points."
Lance Stroll (no time): "It's awful that it ended like this. I made a mistake, went onto the grass. What more is there to add? You saw everything. I have nothing to say. I'm very upset. The suspension was broken and I couldn't go out again. It's a terrible feeling, because in practice I felt comfortable in the car; the balance suited me from the first session."
