Colapinto: The Monza track doesn't suit our car.
Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly posted the 18th and 19th fastest times in qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix. Both Alpine drivers stated that the car’s pace does not allow them to fight for higher starting positions.
Franco Colapinto (18th): “A tough day. Monza doesn’t suit our car, but otherwise we’ve had a clean weekend. I managed some good laps, I’m happy with the car, but we lack the pace to fight for higher starting positions.
The team will think about the race strategy to try to maximize the result. The race won’t be easy, but we’ll do everything we can to move up and finish the European part of the season with the best possible result.”
Pierre Gasly (19th): “We knew in advance that the team would face a difficult qualifying because the track doesn’t suit the car very well. It’s encouraging that compared to practice we reduced the gap to our rivals, so I think we worked well, made progress and remain in the fight.
On the last run I got caught in traffic, losing a bit of time because of that, but it probably still wouldn’t have been enough to advance to the second part. Tomorrow will be a tight battle, and whatever happens we’ll give it our all.
Today is a big day of news – I’ve extended my contract with the team until the end of 2028. I look to the future with confidence and optimism. It’s great to announce a new contract on the five-year anniversary of my first Formula 1 win.”
