Helmut Marko: Max handled the task brilliantly.

Red Bull's motorsport consultant Helmut Marko commented on the qualifying results of the Italian Grand Prix, in which Max Verstappen took pole and set the fastest lap in Formula 1 history with an average speed of 264.68 km/h.

"This weekend we had our best Friday in a long time," Marko said after qualifying on German Sky Sport. "I can't remember when things last went so well. We slightly changed our approach to practice. The team prepared a new floor for the car for this event, and Max immediately felt comfortable. We are progressing step by step.

"In qualifying Max handled the task brilliantly. In the last sector he picked up a tenth, and at the moment that's a huge advantage. When everything is decided by hundredths and thousandths of a second, he is flawless.

"On the flying lap Max's tyres were already worn, but he managed to compensate for that. He set the fastest time and established a new lap record. Of course, such an achievement is the result of joint work with the engineer, but only a genius like Max could achieve it."
