Max Verstappen: I'm happy with the car.

Max Verstappen posted the sixth time in second practice for the Italian Grand Prix, finishing two tenths of a second behind leader Lando Norris. The Red Bull Racing driver is happy with the car’s speed but noted that the real problem on Friday was the gravel on the track.

His teammate Yuki Tsunoda finished second practice ninth and said they still need to work on long-run pace.

Max Verstappen (6th): “The session was quite productive. Last year the weekend in Monza was very tough for us, but today we were much more competitive, and I’m pleased with the car.

The sessions were difficult because others ran off track and brought a lot of gravel onto the asphalt, but overall Friday was quite productive for us.

I think that with that much gravel on the track during qualifying the session would be stopped. Honestly, driving on gravel is like driving on a wet track on slicks. I even almost went off once.”

Yuki Tsunoda (9th): “The second practice was quite positive, especially the pace on a flying lap. We have very good pace, and we don’t even know why the car had such high grip on the Soft tyres. Honestly, I didn’t expect that. If it weren’t for traffic, I would have posted a very good lap time.

Speaking about long-run pace, we still lack pace. We need to find a balance between one-lap speed and long runs, paying more attention to race pace.”
