Bortoleto: A good finish to the European leg of the season
In the Sunday race of the Italian Grand Prix, Sauber was represented only by Gabriel Bortoleto. His teammate Nico Hülkenberg returned to the pits after the formation lap due to hydraulic problems.
The Brazilian driver finished eighth and, thanks to the points he scored, moved up to sixteenth in the drivers' standings.
Gabriel Bortoleto (8th): “The team ran the race confidently, making the right decisions and choosing the optimal strategy. My pit stop was slow, but that was partly my fault, as I stopped further than I should have, which didn’t help either.
Overall I’m pleased with eighth place and the points we scored, which are important in the Constructors’ Championship. Of course I want more, but I consider this result the maximum we could achieve this weekend. We worked steadily and productively — a good way to finish the European part of the season.”
Nico Hülkenberg (did not start): “It’s very frustrating that I couldn’t take part in the race. Hydraulic problems meant we had to retire at the end of the formation lap. Now we need to thoroughly investigate everything and find the cause.
Nevertheless, we saw that the car was quick, and that’s encouraging. Overtaking in Monza isn’t easy, so it’s hard to say what result I might have had. But the positive takeaway is that Gabriel had a good weekend and scored important points for the team.”
