Lando Norris: We didn't have the pace to compete with Red Bull.

At the Italian Grand Prix Lando Norris finished second and clawed back three points on Oscar Piastri in the drivers' championship.

At the pit stop McLaren mechanics struggled to change the front-left wheel on Lando's car, and because of that he rejoined the track behind his teammate, whom he had been ahead of for the entire race. At the team's request Piastri handed the second position back to Norris.

Lando Norris (2nd): "I knew I was going to have a proper fight with Max, and that's how it went at the start. I enjoyed it, but today we didn't have the pace to fight Max and Red Bull.

The race was tough. We had one of those weekends where we lacked pace. But the race was still fun, so I enjoyed it. I don't know exactly what happened at the pit stop. It felt very long. From time to time the team makes mistakes, and today was one of those cases.

I did everything I could – I don't think I could have driven any better. I tried to fight Max, but he was ahead. Second place is the best possible result for us, and I'll keep fighting."

Oscar Piastri (3rd): "The start of the race was difficult. Probably not my best opening laps. I had a good pace compared to Charles Leclerc, but I had to overtake him, and then I spent most of the race on my own.

In the first half of the race I had problems – the car wasn't behaving how I wanted. After the tyres started to wear the situation improved slightly, and that's never the best sign. I'm glad we managed to score that many points.

The position swap with Lando? A small incident at the end of the race, but all good!"
