Russell: Fifth place is the best we can do today.
Mercedes scored points with both cars in Monza, but were unhappy with the pace…
George Russell (5th): “Fifth place was the best we could do today, given the car's speed and our starting position. At first I was fairly pleased to be fighting the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc ahead, but unfortunately even with DRS overtaking here is incredibly difficult, and we couldn't mount an attack.
It's a shame we leave here having conceded a few points to Ferrari in the Constructors' Championship, but it could have been worse. We head into the final eight races with a good chance of finishing second overall. We'll regroup and next week we'll try to put in a good performance in Baku.”
Kimi Antonelli (9th): “The Italian Grand Prix didn't turn out at all as we hoped. I had a poor start, suffered heavy wheelspin and lost a lot of positions, which severely affected my race. It's a pity, because my pace on Medium tyres on a clear track was very good.
At the end of the race I was trying to defend from Albon but, unfortunately, I received a penalty. That cost me another position at the finish.
But there were positives this weekend. I improved in qualifying and felt good in the car. I hope that from Baku onwards we can find better pace and show what we're capable of when we're performing in optimal mode.”
