Alonso states that Newey thinks the new car "will be the best."

      Fernando Alonso has stated that the addition of Adrian Newey to Aston Martin this year has given him renewed assurance about the team's prospects. In comments that were leaked from a sponsor interview with Maaden and circulated by Spanish media, the two-time champion referred to Newey—who is heading Aston’s design for 2026—as "the best designer in the history of the sport."

      "Newey instills a sense of safety in me," remarked the 44-year-old.

      "It’s likely that no one will ever rival his achievements. His method of working clarifies the success he has attained.

      "He has an astonishing ability to perceive the car as a cohesive unit, rather than as separate components that deliver performance," the Spaniard elaborated. "He can envision the entire car as if it were a singular entity. He appears to have everything managed at all times.

      "His self-assurance is something I've rarely encountered. He’s not concerned about other teams, alternative philosophies, or different designs. He has complete faith that his design will be the best."

      Alonso noted that Aston Martin's recent challenges were addressed by strategic leadership changes like Newey’s signing. "The arrival of individuals like Newey has helped us recalibrate our expectations and our drive," he mentioned.

      "If you observe no transformation when the situation is unfavorable, that becomes an issue. It leads to a loss of confidence. However, what I've discovered at Aston Martin is a team and leadership that will not be satisfied until we achieve victory."

      Alonso reminisced about Newey's trip to Monaco earlier this year. "He’s not one to engage with many people, yet he’s constantly contemplating and adjusting various aspects. The front wing here, the suspension there—he seems more like an artist than an engineer."

      Lastly, the 32-time Grand Prix winner expressed that he and Newey share a similar outlook. "When we're driven, we become obsessed," he said with a smile.
