Francois Provost, the new CEO of Renault, has made his inaugural appearance in the Formula 1 paddock, affirming the French automaker's dedication to the sport. Provost, who took over from Luca de Meo following his unexpected resignation, attended the Italian GP at Monza amid ongoing concerns about Renault's long-term interest in Formula 1 and circulating rumors regarding a potential takeover of Alpine involving Briatore, Ecclestone, and Horner.

"I'm very pleased to be here," Provost told Canal Plus. "The primary aim of my visit is to emphasize that we are committed to staying in Formula 1. We will be in Formula 1 for an extended period. I believe we are entering a new phase, one focused on performance, but more importantly, stability. Pierre (Gasly)’s commitment exemplifies this, and the hiring of Steve as COO is also indicative of our direction. Clearly, we have made significant progress."

This mention referred to Steve Nielsen, who experienced his first weekend in the Alpine position at Monza. Briatore, who oversaw Nielsen’s appointment, also attempted to quell speculation about Renault potentially withdrawing. "The new CEO is very excited about the Formula 1 program," he stated, referring to Provost. "Renault intends to remain in Formula 1. Currently, within the Renault Group, there is no turmoil, no changes. Everyone is content."

However, the choice of drivers remains uncertain. Gasly is confirmed through 2028, but concerns regarding Franco Colapinto’s inconsistent rookie performance have sparked speculation about other options. Yuki Tsunoda and Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovich have been mentioned, with Auto Hebdo suggesting the latter could be a contender despite being committed to Aston Martin’s 2026 program.

"Next year, the main focus will be on the engine, the battery, and energy efficiency, which aligns with my experience in Hypercar and Formula E," Drugovich told the French magazine. "I've already tested the 2026 tires and will participate in further testing."

Colapinto's physical condition was also scrutinized at Monza, with reports indicating he appeared dizzy and unwell following the race. Meanwhile, Frederik Vesti, who was once associated with Cadillac until the signings of Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez, admitted at Monza that discussions with other teams are ongoing.

"At this point, I'm not in a situation where I've lost hope and think Formula 1 is over for me. I have more belief than ever," the Mercedes reserve driver told Ekstra Bladet. "There are three or four other teams I could consider, let's narrow it down to three realistic teams, with Cadillac being one. Beyond that, I prefer not to mention too many names."
