Formula E: Maserati changes its signage to Citroën Racing

A new team — Citroen Racing — will appear in Formula E next season. However, in fact it is merely a change of signage: the team that competed in the electric racing world championship as Maserati MSG Racing will now race under another brand of the multinational Stellantis group.

As Citroen management emphasizes, joining Formula E will be "a new challenge, an exciting adventure in the field of electric technologies and innovations that embodies our values and our vision of the future of motoring. Citroen is returning to motorsport, to the arena where the brand's history and legend were formed..."

That is indeed true, since Citroen Racing teams have won in every championship and competition they entered in previous years. These include the Dakar rally raids, the World Rally Championship where Sébastien Loeb won nine titles, rallycross, and the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), where Citroën also achieved many notable successes.

At the official Formula E preseason tests in Valencia, which start at Spain's Ricardo Tormo Circuit on October 27, the team will appear in new colors and under a new name.

The Citroen Racing Formula E Team lineup has not yet been officially announced, but it is expected that Nick Cassidy and Jean-Éric Vergne will drive for it.

At the same time, it is not entirely clear what fate awaits another Stellantis brand — DS Automobiles — although that team, which competed under the name DS Penske until 2025, achieved considerable success.

As The Race writes, "the most it can hope for is to remain in Formula E as a third-tier customer team. Since it is believed that Opel intends to enter Formula E under its own license, against this backdrop it seems the DS brand may leave the electric series after a very successful decade..."

The first round of the 12th Formula E season is scheduled for December 6 and will take place in Brazil.
