Formula 2: Trident to replace both drivers already in Baku

Trident has announced that it is parting ways with Max Esterson and Sami Meguetounif, and it is expected that in less than a week at the Baku round other drivers will be piloting its cars.

"By mutual agreement of the parties we have decided to part ways before the end of the 2025 season," the Italian team said in a statement. "Thank you, Sami and Max, for your determination! It has been a pleasure for the team to work with both of you, and we wish them all the best in the future."

With three rounds remaining, Trident sits last, 11th, in the teams' standings, with just two points to its name, earned by Meguetounif in Imola and Spielberg. Accordingly, Sami is 19th in the drivers' standings, while Max is 21st.

"This season in F2 has not delivered the results the team deserves for its efforts," the American driver admitted. "All team personnel worked hard, but their efforts, contrary to expectations, failed to convert into a consistent pace or points… I hope I will find a chance to return to F2 in the remaining races of the season if a vacancy opens up somewhere, although my main focus is on returning to Formula 2 in 2026."

Since the F3 season ended in Monza a week ago, it is quite likely that somebody from that series will be at the wheel of Trident's cars already in Baku. As Formula Scout suggests, these could be 19-year-old Norwegian Martinius Stenshorne, a member of McLaren's junior programme, and 20-year-old Dutchman Laurens van Hoepen.
