Max Verstappen made a successful debut at the Nürburgring.
We reported that Max Verstappen was going to compete this weekend in a four-hour race at the Nürburgring behind the wheel of a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS, and about why he was doing it. Now it's time to give some details about how he fared today.
First of all, Max took part in qualifying, lapping the 20.832 km circuit in 10:21.591 — the sixth-best time in class and 26th overall. Another indication of how the four-time world champion is coping is this fact: on his second, decisive attempt his time was 12.6 seconds faster than on his first.
The track could not be called ideal: the asphalt was fairly wet, though it was gradually drying, especially on certain sections.
The same was true during the race, in which he competed in a crew alongside Chris Lalham, and they finished seventh in their class. Max is expected to receive the German DMSB Permit Nordschleife license, which would allow him to race on the Nordschleife in the more powerful GT3 category in the future.
In the overall classification the Porsche crew of the Lionspeed team placed 27th, but first in the CUP3(G) subclass, in which drivers with "guest" status compete. In any case, Verstappen and Lalham outperformed many rivals who were competing in more powerful GT3-category cars.
