Red Bull cars are being taken around Budapest… by tram.

This weekend residents of Budapest and visitors to the Hungarian capital can observe a curious and perhaps unique sight: an old tram painted in Red Bull colours is running through the city, with a cargo flatbed hitched to it on which the racing cars of this British Formula 1 team are mounted.

The little tram first ran on Thursday and will operate until Monday — this sort of promotional stunt is dedicated to the upcoming Red Bull Showrun demonstrations, scheduled for 20–21 September, and its organizers hope to attract additional public attention.

Both cars are RB7s, the model Red Bull Racing drivers raced in the 2011 World Championship — back then it was Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. But now this machinery, painted in the current colours of the two teams, Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls, is used for a variety of racing shows and demonstrations.

In Budapest they will be driven by former Formula 1 drivers David Coulthard and Patrick Friesacher.

So that as many people as possible can see the unusual tram and the racing cars, it follows different city routes on different days, according to a schedule published in the local press.

Next weekend’s Red Bull Showrun will take place on an improvised track laid out not far from the city centre in the Stefánia Street area.
