Lando Norris: The mistake cost me dearly.

McLaren's drivers ended up mid-pack in unusually low positions following Friday practice in Baku. But this was primarily because on the first day of the weekend on the tricky street circuit both made mistakes, and that led to certain consequences.

Oscar Piastri (12th): "We couldn't avoid difficulties. Our sessions went differently, and although the car has pace, it's not so easy to show it. That's the main reason right now.

There are some driving issues for the moment, but we'll analyse everything that happened during practice to understand what can be changed in the build-up to tomorrow.

I think the picture will be somewhat different tomorrow, because on Saturday the tyre choice will be different and other changes will occur. I believe there were quite a few positive moments today as well, and we'll definitely take them into account, but there were also difficulties."

Lando Norris (10th): "I made a small mistake, but it cost me dearly, even though up until that point everything had been going well. But I prefer to attack and push to the limits, even if that leads to consequences like this, rather than not attack at all.

I agree, it's frustrating, because I would have liked to do a run of laps on heavy fuel, especially since this weekend we're using softer tyre compounds than a year ago. But the situation is what it is, and I'm determined to make up for what was lost today.

Speeds are noticeably higher compared with last year, and we're using the softest compound tyre, which doesn't happen very often. We've only used it in Monaco and Imola. So, it's clear I have less information so far than others, since the session didn't go very well for Oscar and me. In addition, it seems we have some problems with the car. But we'll see what we can achieve tomorrow.

Definitely, Ferrari are quick around this track, but they were the fastest here last year too, even if the victory went to Oscar. Red Bull will be quick as well, despite not being at the front on Friday. They'll get back to work tomorrow morning and be very quick. Overall, I expect to have at least three rivals tomorrow."
