Max Verstappen states that Red Bull’s momentum is definitely on the rise after achieving consecutive poles at Monza and Baku. "We gained a lot of insights in Monza, and we are carrying that knowledge forward," the four-time world champion shared with Dutch reporters following qualifying. "The car is noticeably more stable, allowing for more confident cornering. You’re able to fine-tune the setup more effectively throughout the weekend, giving you much better reference points come qualifying."
Verstappen noted that the RB21’s low-downforce configuration shows promise, but he cautioned that the next tests will be at tracks like Singapore. "Here, we’re still running with very little downforce. We need to see how it performs in Singapore and other circuits where more downforce is required."
At this point, he emphasized that consistency is the main advantage. "The fact that I’ve been feeling good all weekend is a positive sign," the Dutchman explained. "We no longer need to make radical changes to the car, which makes it a bit more enjoyable to work with."
Verstappen, 27, also commended the atmosphere since Laurent Mekies took over from Christian Horner. "We’ve had some really great moments together. When facing tough times, it’s not pleasant. Now that things are improving, it's even better to have gotten through those challenging periods as a team. The atmosphere is great, and that’s important."
"It also boosts confidence, which is crucial. It allows people to see the light at the end of the tunnel," Verstappen added. When asked what he personally did to promote that confidence, the pole-sitter smiled and simply said: "Driving laps."
He continued: "We’ve engaged in many discussions about how we can make adjustments and test different aspects. We’ve been successful in that regard." Comparing the current situation to past struggles, he remarked: "It was very different then. Things are not the same now with the budget cap in play. There will always be challenging moments. Naturally, you might wonder if things will work out, but there’s no benefit in dwelling on that."
"You need to seek solutions, communicate with others, and share ideas." For Dr. Helmut Marko, Verstappen remains essential for Red Bull's success. "Max is extremely valuable, especially under these circumstances," he told Sport1 after a chaotic qualifying session affected by wet and dry conditions. "With him, you can distinguish between the truly exceptional talents in the top tier of motorsport."
