Pedro de la Rosa states that Adrian Newey's joining Aston Martin is not merely a promotional tactic, insisting that the renowned designer is already boosting the entire team with his unwavering work ethic.
"The key point is that Adrian Newey didn’t join Aston Martin with retirement in mind," de la Rosa, a former Formula 1 race and test driver who is now an ambassador for the Silverstone-based team, remarked on the Duralavita podcast. "He’s working—not 24 hours a day, because he does sleep. But his sleep is minimal, I can assure you of that. It’s incredible," the Spaniard chuckled.
De la Rosa, 54, mentioned that it’s not unusual to encounter Newey at his iconic old-style drawing board during the early hours. "On any day I visit the factory, no matter when, he’s in the office. At two in the morning, he’s still there," he expressed in amazement.
He noted that Newey’s impact is both practical and motivational. "The Adrian Newey effect isn’t a marketing gimmick. It’s driven by work, and it serves as an inspiration. It’s reaching out and motivating new generations.
"Everyone is thrilled to collaborate with him, and that’s interesting." According to de la Rosa, Newey only agreed to join because he recognizes genuine potential in Aston's investments—new facilities, a wind tunnel, and CFD capabilities. "The potential is there. But we’ll demonstrate it next year," he concluded.
