On Friday at Mugello the two-day Pirelli tests, held as part of preparations for the 2026 season, concluded. Today Pirelli worked with the Ferrari team, represented by Charles Leclerc and Scuderia’s reserve driver Guanyu Zhou.
Leclerc and Zhou were scheduled to test prototypes of the hardest compounds, but rain, at times quite heavy, altered the on-track programme. In the morning Charles completed only 25 laps – all on intermediate tyres. The Monegasque’s best time on the wet track was 1:34.914.
In the afternoon Zhou replaced Leclerc at the wheel of the upgraded SF-25. The Chinese driver also began the tests on intermediate and wet tyres, but when the surface had dried sufficiently he switched to slicks. He completed a total of 75 laps with a best time of 1:22.012.
“Unfortunately, the weather did not help,” commented Pirelli’s Head of Racing, Mario Isola, on the test results. “It’s a pity, because Mugello is not only a great circuit but also a place where tyres are subjected to severe loads, so it would have been useful for us to run long stints to evaluate the hardest compounds.
“Now we have to finish the work by analysing the small amount of information collected over the two days, compare it with the data obtained in previous tests, and draw the necessary conclusions.
“As for the soft compounds, we will have another two days of testing after the Mexican Grand Prix to choose the final options for homologation.
“If there is a positive side, at least we were able to test the wet tyres on a real circuit, gathering data and ideas that will be useful for medium- and long-term developments.
“Finally, I want to thank the Haas and Ferrari teams for their cooperation over these two days.”
