Verstappen — "Driver of the Day" after victory at the Nordschleife
A more than convincing victory by Max Verstappen and his teammate, Chris Lalham, behind the wheel of a Ferrari 296 GT3 in the 4-hour race on the Nürburgring Nordschleife impressed the motorsport world, especially since it was the debut for both in the top class of the German NLS series.
However, there were skeptics who commented on social media that Max achieved such a noticeable advantage because the level of his rivals was not that high, since all the strongest drivers had been competing in Japan last weekend at the penultimate round of the WEC season.
Presumably Max pays no attention to such remarks, and they cannot overshadow his success; on the contrary, the fact that the organizers of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie named him "Driver of the Day" only adds to the pleasure.
While in Formula 1 awarding such a "title" by fan vote has been practiced for quite some time, the NLS series only instituted it this season. It so happened that Verstappen was named "Driver of the Day" after his victory in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and just a few days later he became Fahrer des Tages in a completely different racing category.
As Max said after the finish, "Now we really want to compete in the 24-hour race on the Nordschleife. But I don't know yet whether that will be possible next year. We need more experience, so I hope that in 2026 we can do more NLS races."
