Arrivabene: Ferrari is 'lagging' in certain aspects compared to other teams.

"We're somewhat lagging in composites and aerodynamics."

Former Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene has finally addressed the current challenges faced by Scuderia, amidst growing speculation regarding Charles Leclerc's tolerance for the Maranello team. Arrivabene, 68, spoke with Tuttosport primarily about ongoing legal issues outside of Formula 1, but he also commented on the condition of his former team under the guidance of current principal Frederic Vasseur.

"When you've been part of the team, you become aware of various mechanisms and technical challenges," he explained. "A supercar consists of 5,000 components, and you have four years to perfect it. A Formula 1 car has 50,000 parts, and you have merely six months. A single mistake can haunt you for nearly the entire season, making it hard to rectify.

"Vasseur is a serious individual and understands this," Arrivabene added. "I had a simpler experience because I spoke Italian and could understand all the subtleties, nuances, and ideas of everyone."

He acknowledged that Ferrari continues to face challenges in areas beyond their traditional engine strengths. "We’re somewhat behind in composites and aerodynamics," he stated, "since we consistently produce engines that outperform the competition.

"The English in the Oxford area have developed such technology and are ahead. Bridging this gap in tradition, along with the expertise and proximity of universities to production, requires considerable effort.

"However, we are making progress. It demands patience, but Ferrari is heading in the right direction. Such advancements could also benefit the country – 30,000 people are employed in England in this field. It’s not only about winning races; it's about industrial advancement."
