Felipe Drugovich is set to leave his current position as a reserve driver.
Aston Martin has not dismissed rumors suggesting that Yuki Tsunoda might have his Formula 1 career revived by Honda when the Japanese automotive company becomes the team's new works engine partner in 2026. It is reported that the struggling Red Bull racer, who has faced challenges similar to those of his recent teammates with Max Verstappen, is being considered for a reserve seat at Aston Martin.
However, Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane came to Tsunoda’s defense this week. "For one thing, his speed," Permane remarked when asked what had impressed him about Tsunoda during his time at the junior team. "I didn’t know Yuki at all before I joined the team in ’24, but I was immediately struck by his pace, his tire management, his qualifying skills, and how quickly he could adapt to the tires.
"Honestly, his feedback and his performance both in and out of the car align with that of top drivers. He’s an excellent driver. It was a pleasant surprise to work with him." Current standout Isack Hadjar from Racing Bulls is being tipped to take over Tsunoda’s seat in 2026, although new rumors have emerged that Red Bull might seek to entice Alex Albon back from Williams.
Albon shared with f1-insider.com: "I frequently talk to Yuki, offer him advice, and encourage him. I think he’s truly impressive. But I always remind him that he has the greatest Formula 1 driver ever in the neighboring garage." Regarding the potential Aston Martin-Tsunoda collaboration, the team stated that it would reveal its complete 2026 lineup "in due course." It is also anticipated that Felipe Drugovich will leave his current reserve position with Aston Martin to transition into Formula E with Andretti.
