Bottas: I miss racing more and more.
On January 1, 2026, Valtteri Bottas will become the lead driver for Cadillac, but for now he has a reserve driver contract with Mercedes. In an interview with crash.net the Finn said he would like to start helping his new team right away…
Valtteri Bottas: “Graham Loudon [Cadillac team principal] and Toto [Wolff, Mercedes team principal] have already been in talks about a possible dual role. Mercedes have supported me during the transition period, and I don’t think they will particularly oppose it.
Besides, I’ve discussed with Cadillac the possibility of online briefings — that’s permitted for me. Everyone understands there’s a lot of work ahead, but driver feedback is needed in some areas already. From January I officially start working at Cadillac, but I’ll have time to do a few things before that.
I’ve already visited the base in Silverstone — just had a quick look around. To be honest, I didn’t expect everything to be so advanced. It seems they started quite some time ago. What I saw is impressive and gives reason for optimism.
I really want to get behind the wheel as soon as possible. It feels like the first race of the season in Melbourne is still ages away. But first we have winter testing — it will be a crucial moment for the new team, which will be working with a new car for the first time. It’s great to be part of such vivid moments on our path. But with each week I miss racing more and more. So yes, I really want to get on track.”
