In Formula 1, the qualifying format will be adjusted.
Next season in Formula 1 the qualifying format will change slightly due to the arrival of an eleventh team, Cadillac, in the championship. Currently qualifying consists of three sessions lasting 18, 15 and 12 minutes. After the first session the five slowest drivers are eliminated, after the second another five are eliminated, and in the final the top ten contest the positions in the first half of the starting grid. In 2026, due to the increase in the number of drivers from 20 to 22, the number of participants who will be eliminated after the first and second qualifying sessions will change from five to six. Formula 1 considered an option under which seven drivers would be eliminated after the first session, but that option was rejected. A similar qualifying format was last used in 2016, when eleven teams took part in Formula 1.
