Lewis Hamilton broke another of Schumacher's records.
Despite a five-second penalty and eighth place in the Singapore Grand Prix classification, in the recent race Lewis Hamilton broke Michael Schumacher’s record, which had stood since 2006.
In Singapore the British Ferrari driver set the fastest lap of the race, establishing a new outright record for the number of consecutive seasons in which a driver records at least one fastest lap. Lewis now has 16 such seasons, whereas Michael Schumacher had 15 — from 1992 to 2006.
Lewis’s record streak has continued since 2010, and overall it is already the 18th season of his career with a fastest lap. Hamilton also recorded fastest laps in 2007 and 2008, and only 2009 remains the sole exception in the career of the seven-time world champion.
By total career fastest laps Michael Schumacher remains the record-holder — 77. Hamilton’s fastest lap in Singapore was his 68th. Among active drivers, Max Verstappen is second in career fastest laps with 35.
