Alpine reserve driver Jack Doohan may continue his career at Haas next season. The Australian's chances of returning to an Alpine cockpit are fading, and the driver and his camp are looking for other options to stay in Formula 1.
According to paddock insider Chris Medland, in Singapore the driver's father, Mick Doohan, held talks with Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu. In Jack's case it would be a reserve driver contract, since Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman have contracts for 2026.
However, Bearman has already accumulated 10 penalty points and risks receiving a one-race ban. In that case Haas would need a replacement driver, and Jack Doohan, who has six starts this season, could stand in for Oliver.
"Jack Doohan's name is being linked to a potential move to Haas," Medland said on the Pit Pass F1 podcast. "I was told Doohan could sign a contract with Toyota and possibly compete in Japan's Super Formula to stay sharp. He wants to race, but he hasn't sat in an F1 car since Miami.
A contract with Toyota would allow him to take on a reserve-driver role at Haas and participate in tests of past cars. And if the team needs a reserve driver, Jack would bolster their roster.
I saw that Mick Doohan spoke with Ayao Komatsu for quite a while and went into Haas several times during the weekend. I suppose Jack's camp is exploring options, because it doesn't look like the door at Alpine will reopen for him and he will be able to return to a race seat before the end of the season, even if Franco Colapinto doesn't do very well.
It seems Colapinto will stay at Alpine until the end of the year. We'll see what happens next with the seat in Alpine's second car, but it's obvious Doohan doesn't believe that seat will come back to him, so he's considering other options."
