Zak Brown refuted Alex Palou's statements made in court.

We are following the progress of the London trial between McLaren and Alex Palou: the British team accuses him of breaching contractual obligations and is seeking more than $20 million in alleged damages.

The four-time IndyCar champion admits that he breached the contract, but is trying to explain his actions and disagrees with McLaren’s financial claims.

In particular, speaking in court, Palou claimed that at the time Zak Brown, chief executive of McLaren Racing, told him that the decision on the contract with Oscar Piastri was made not by him but by Andreas Seidl, then the team’s principal.

In an interview with Reuters ahead of the United States Grand Prix, Brown essentially mocked Palou for those remarks: “I couldn’t say which of the claims amused me more: his view that I don’t make key decisions about the team’s lineup, or the suggestion that I wasn’t involved in the process of signing the very talented Oscar Piastri. Both claims are plainly ridiculous, and everyone who follows our sport understands that. And I never told Palou that we would consider him for 2023. It was only about some possible opportunities to get into Formula 1.”

He also added that last weekend he spoke to Piastri about the matter, and Piastri simply laughed when Brown told him what statements Palou was making in court.

“Oscar and Lando are absolutely the best driver pairing in all of Formula 1,” said Zak Brown. “I am utterly thrilled with their incredible results, their approach to the job, and I look forward to seeing exciting races for the rest of the season.”
