Alonso believes that Verstappen has a chance at the title.

With six rounds remaining in the season, Max Verstappen is 63 points behind the leader, Oscar Piastri. At the FIA press conference in Austin, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso reflected on Max's chances of becoming world champion for a fifth consecutive time.

Fernando Alonso: "Max is a four-time world champion, and that is no coincidence. He is one of the best drivers in the history of the sport, who knows how to extract the maximum from the car. When his car dominates, he not only wins the title but also sets several records over the course of the season. But even when his car is not as good or not the fastest, he is still able to put in an excellent lap in qualifying and fight in the race.

He performs at a very high level. This year he has to battle opponents who have an amazing car — McLaren. But if the fight goes on until the last race, and they are separated by the minimum of points, then I would advise keeping a close eye on Max.

The McLaren gives such an advantage that the drivers are able to fight each other. But Max can also intervene, as he did in 2021, when his car was worse than the Mercedes, and he still won the title in Abu Dhabi."

Assessing his performances this season, Fernando said: "It's difficult to evaluate our results because highs have alternated with lows depending on the characteristics of the circuit and the specifics of the weekend. Depending on that, the car went a bit better or a bit worse. So the results depended on the car, but this is certainly not a season that will be remembered for long."
