Max Verstappen: Chances for the title? 50/50
At the FIA press conference in Austin, Max Verstappen spoke philosophically about his chances of winning the title this year. The Red Bull Racing driver has not given up the fight, but he made it clear that defeat would not be a serious blow to him.
Max Verstappen: “The last three weekends have been very good, although some were better than others. I still think we didn’t get the maximum out of the car in Singapore.
But we analyzed everything anyway and will try to perform better here. Austin is a great track, and a sprint weekend will, as usual, be more intense. I’m curious myself to see what we’re capable of on this circuit.
Chances for the title? 50/50. I either win or I don’t. To be honest, I don’t really think about the championship situation. I arrive at the event and try to get the most out of the car, not thinking about whether I’m ahead or behind. I just see every race weekend as a chance to win.
If we don’t win the title, then we don’t. Life will go on regardless. Right now the team and I are trying to understand the car even better so we can apply what we learn next year, because we won’t have to start from scratch in all areas.
I can see that the McLaren is still better than ours in medium-speed corners. The rest depends on the track characteristics and the weather conditions, so it’s hard to make predictions.”
