Norris: The last thing I want after the race is to get into an argument.

Lando Norris, speaking to the press in the paddock at the Circuit of the Americas, admitted responsibility for the contact with Oscar Piastri's car at the start of the Singapore Grand Prix, but stressed that he had absolutely no intention of creating a dangerous situation that could have led to far more serious consequences.

Lando Norris: “The team placed the responsibility for what happened on me, and I think that’s fair. Then we moved on to understanding what the consequences were personally for me, and how I could have acted to avoid more serious consequences.

The last thing you want is for things to happen that lead to this kind of debate after the race. On the other hand, I put myself at the same risk as any other driver I compete with, Oscar or whoever, and I could have also been forced to retire from the race.

In short, definitely, I would have preferred to avoid all of this. Actually, from the very start of my Formula 1 career one of my strengths has been the ability to avoid contact and keep racing.

I believe McLaren has always managed to create conditions in which we, the drivers, can trust both each other and the team. And that practice largely explains why our team is stronger than all the others.”
