Timo Glock on the situation at McLaren
Former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock was surprised by McLaren's actions on Sky Sport…
Timo Glock: “In Austin they’re talking about ‘consequences for Norris’ because of the incident in Singapore, but they don’t say what they are. My view is: if you have something to tell the world, say it. If not — better to stay silent. If you have those ‘Papaya rules,’ keep them to yourselves, and those conversations: ‘Yes, something happened there’ and ‘We did something there’… it’s all complete rubbish!
I don’t understand what all the fuss is about. Either I stay quiet, or I become vulnerable. I think Verstappen is very happy about what’s going on: ‘Colleagues, carry on with your argument, and I’ll be nearby if you collide again.’
I don’t understand how such a minor contact became the subject of an internal investigation. Norris is fighting for the championship. Was he supposed to just let his teammate through and wave at him? All this ‘We’ll discuss it internally.’ Discuss what? The fact is these two are fighting for the championship, each of them is doing everything they can, and Norris is forced to chase back.
For Norris it looked like this: the track was slightly damp, he was holding the inside line, but he had no other choice, he was a bit surprised by Verstappen’s braking, and then he lost control of the rear of the car. There was enough space there, he only clipped his teammate because the car started to slide. Lando has no choice but to constantly remind his teammate that he’s quick and wants to fight back.
This is starting to worry Oscar. Everyone thinks this guy’s pulse never goes above 100 beats per minute, but gradually you notice — judging by what has happened in recent races — that he’s getting nervous too.”
