Hülkenberg: Problems occurred in the final sector.
Nico Hülkenberg qualified eleventh in Austin. The Sauber driver said that he lost time in the final sector on his decisive lap, but his starting position leaves the possibility of scoring points. His teammate Gabriel Bortoleto set the sixteenth fastest time.
Nico Hülkenberg (11th): "The sprint for me effectively ended as a result of the incident in the first corner. It's frustrating because what happened ruined my whole race and deprived me of a chance for a good result. It's good that immediately after that there was a chance to get back in the car, reset and focus on qualifying.
Austin is an amazing circuit, and qualifying went well overall. Unfortunately, the final lap wasn't as clean as it should have been. I had some small issues in the last sector, where gusts of wind cost me time.
Starting eleventh means I'm close to the points-paying top ten on a track where overtaking is possible."
Gabriel Bortoleto (16th): "Honestly, the weekend has been tough. I'm having trouble finding the pace, especially in the last sector. I just don't feel as much confidence in the car as I did at previous tracks. My first and second sectors are good, but I can't put them together.
As for the sprint, it was chaotic due to yellow flags and collisions. It's good that I managed to reach the finish with the car intact. Also, we were able to gather additional information on the balance.
Before qualifying the team adjusted the setup, and the car's behavior improved, but I lacked a few more laps to attack on the limit and try to get into the second part.
I'm racing on a track that's new to me and I feel there's still more to learn, so I couldn't extract the maximum from the car. We'll keep learning and see what we can do to maximize our chances in Sunday's race."
