Oscar Piastri: The most important thing is that I gained new experience.

Yesterday at the McLaren Technology Centre the entire British team gathered to review the Mexican Grand Prix, and Andrea Stella and, of course, the drivers addressed the staff at the Woking base.

As for Lando Norris, who took his sixth victory of the season, displayed his latest trophy and thanked all McLaren employees, that's more or less straightforward, so Oscar Piastri's comments are perhaps of greater interest, especially since he was called on first.

The Australian has encountered clear difficulties since the start of autumn, and only possibly this past weekend did things begin to click for him again — at least Oscar hopes so.

"I think at several of the previous rounds I definitely had to overcome certain difficulties that arose along the way," he admitted. "But the most important thing is that I gained some new experience, new knowledge, and I hope that ultimately this will help me move forward. It's not just about this year, but my career as a whole. So there were obstacles, and it took a lot of effort to adapt to the situation, but now that I understand where I need to focus my efforts, I can make progress quickly and accomplish the tasks ahead of me. But it took some time to sort all that out."

When it was his turn, Norris spoke on a different topic: "At all the remaining rounds of the season, every hundredth of a second will decide whether we end up on pole or in fifth, sixth or some other position. This applies also to the first two parts of qualifying, and in the second session the competition is sometimes even fiercer than in the final. So there's a risk of being knocked out of contention already at the start of qualifying or in the second session if you're missing one or two hundredths. That's why every nuance matters now, even though not long ago you might have thought these were minor details. But when you start analysing all these little things together at the end of the season, they can add up to a very noticeable difference in results. I just wanted to remind everyone that any small thing can help us now, and we must keep fighting without overlooking anything."

Also, after the Singapore Grand Prix McLaren had already secured the Constructors' Championship, and after the Mexican round Lando Norris became the new leader of the drivers' standings, but he leads his teammate by only one championship point. Meanwhile Max Verstappen is quickly closing the gap and trails Piastri by only 35 points.
