Alex Wurz on McLaren's disqualification in Vegas...

Former Formula 1 driver and chairman of the drivers' union GPDA, Alex Wurz, commented on McLaren's disqualification in Vegas on ORF...

Alex Wurz: "There were already rumours in Brazil that several teams had asked the FIA how some cars with such low ride heights had passed scrutineering. I was surprised at how quickly the FIA checked the McLarens in Vegas after the finish. Maybe the federation was informed about it by other teams? Maybe they wanted to take measurements while the cars were still hot? But that's only rumours.

I understand why McLaren set their cars at the limits of the regulations. If you don't, you fall out of the game. In Formula 1 everything is decided by the details. Every millimetre, every fraction of a millimetre matters. McLaren crossed the line a little — and were disqualified. We've already seen such disqualifications. Quite recently with Ferrari. There's nothing to discuss. If the skid plank is worn more than allowed, the car is disqualified.

Lando Norris lost the most from this, while Piastri even benefited slightly — without the disqualification he would have been 30 points behind his teammate, but now he's only 24 behind.

The real winners are the spectators. We're in for a fantastic finale. The World Championship is approaching its climax, and Max Verstappen's chances, which had seemed very small, have suddenly grown significantly. The guy just floors it and wins races. And in Qatar he will have a car capable of winning. So let's be patient — we'll soon find out how it all ends."
