Liam Lawson apologized to the team and Piastri.
On the first lap of the Las Vegas Grand Prix Liam Lawson damaged his front wing when he collided with Oscar Piastri. For the title contender there were no consequences, while the Racing Bulls driver went to the pits for a new nose cone, losing the chance to score points. After the race Lawson apologized for the ill-fated maneuver.
Liam Lawson: "I went deep into the corner, although I wasn't even trying to overtake. The track was just very slippery, and I clipped the car in front of me, even though I was actually trying to avoid a collision.
I apologize to the team and, of course, to Oscar. I didn't mean to hit him. It's a shame it turned out like this, as our team started with both cars in the top ten, but I couldn't score any points."
The stewards did not penalize Liam Lawson for the collision with Piastri. They concluded that the incident resulted from Liam trying to avoid a collision with George Russell and therefore locking his wheels under braking, clipping the McLaren driver.
