Brown will have to fulfill the promise made to Norris.

Lando Norris became the 11th British driver to win a Formula 1 world championship, and as a prize for his achievement he is set to receive not only the coveted trophy, now engraved with his name, but also the cash bonus provided for in his contract with McLaren.

As far back as 2024, when he still had a theoretical chance of winning the world championship, Norris admitted in an interview with The Telegraph: “I have an agreement with Zak Brown that if I win the championship he will have to buy me a car. Which one, I’ve also specified. We sealed the deal with a handshake, but that’s all I’m willing to say.”

Lando’s dream of a title only came true in 2025, and it has now emerged which car he meant. According to the London tabloid The Mirror, it is the rare Italian supercar Pagani Zonda.

These cars were fitted with mighty Mercedes-built V12 engines. Depending on the version, these engines have displacements of 6.0 or 7.3 liters, and their power reaches roughly 550 hp.

Zonda cars were produced until 2019; a total of 140 were made, and depending on version and specification their price can range from €1.5 million to €10 million. In any case, the CEO of McLaren Racing will have to pay a hefty sum.

Norris’s personal collection already includes not only McLaren sports cars but also rare Italian models, a Ferrari F40 and a Lamborghini Miura.

Lewis Hamilton once owned a Pagani Zonda too, until he sold it in 2021 for €10 million. But the car’s subsequent fate was unfortunate: a couple of years later the new owner crashed it.

Of course, Formula 1 drivers’ driving skills are in a different league from those of even advanced amateur motorists, and one can assume that Lando will take care of such a car if and when Zak Brown makes good on his promise.
