With abundant speed and luxury, the Bentayga stands out as the premier Bentley SUV. However, there’s still room for further innovation, as showcased by a new off-road concept.
Unveiled at the FAT Ice Race in Zell am See, Austria, the Bentayga X was designed to "generate feedback for an upgraded off-road capable Bentayga,” according to a Bentley press statement. This serves as a third option for diversifying the Bentayga range, alongside the performance-focused Bentayga Speed and the chauffeur-oriented Bentayga Extended Wheelbase, as explained by the automotive manufacturer.
Essentially a Bentayga Speed with modified suspension and off-road tires, the Bentayga X boasts a ride height increase of 2.1 inches and a track width expansion of 4.7 inches, resulting in approximately 12.2 inches of ground clearance and a wading depth of 21.6 inches. The fenders have been widened by 1.5 inches to accommodate larger tires on forged 22-inch wheels.
A roof rack provides a practical mounting option for four spotlights and also carries an electric go-kart. Additionally, it elevates the Bentayga X’s total height to an impressive 98 inches. While this Bentley excels in rugged environments, it’s best to steer clear of parking garages.
The concept features the Bentayga Speed’s twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, introduced for the 2025 model year to replace the phased-out W12. This engine produces 641 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, distributed to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Bentley has kept the original active anti-roll system and air suspension, and included the optional Akrapovič titanium exhaust system that’s available on the Speed.
The production potential of the Bentayga X will hinge on customer input, but considering the strong demand for the G-Wagen and Range Rover, an off-road variant appears to be a sensible direction. It would also aid in sustaining interest in the current-generation Bentayga prior to its upcoming redesign. Additionally, it’s likely an approach Rolls-Royce would not attempt with the Cullinan (in our opinion).
