Rovanpera pauses F1 journey due to health issues.
Kalle Rovanpera has paused his emerging single-seater career due to ongoing health concerns, impacting his long-term goal of reaching Formula 1. The two-time world rally champion was transitioning to circuit racing through Japan's Super Formula series, widely viewed as a possible route to F1. However, the 25-year-old announced on social media that he will not participate in the 2026 season.
"My health doesn’t allow me to safely continue at this time," Rovanpera stated. "I have been dealing with medical issues for a while now, and they have worsened this year. My top priority is to resolve this."
Rovanpera demonstrated strong potential during testing, with Toyota officials openly supporting his advancement in circuit racing. "The feedback and progress this year indicate that there is good potential in this project," he mentioned. "My journey in circuit racing is not over."
The Finn's program had significant backing from Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda, also known by his racing name "Morizo", who confirmed that the decision was made based on medical advice. "His body was struggling to keep pace," Toyoda said. "After a medical evaluation, we reached the difficult conclusion that it would be unwise for him to continue competing."
Toyoda revealed that making the decision to end Rovanpera’s season was challenging. "I questioned what it truly means to let him pursue speed, versus what it means to protect someone you believe in," he explained. Nevertheless, he affirmed Toyota's unwavering support for the young driver. "Please understand this—his challenge in circuit racing is far from over," Toyoda added. "As Morizo, I will continue to support him—not just as a fellow driver, but as a teammate who wholeheartedly believes in him."
Rovanpera's withdrawal is believed to be associated with a dizziness-related condition that has affected him during high-speed circuit activities.
