Mario Andretti: Our drivers are not in the best shape right now.

Mario Andretti, the 1978 world champion, is a member of the Cadillac F1 board of directors, so he is, of course, aware of everything happening with the new American team. The 86-year-old Formula 1 veteran is ready to admit that both Cadillac drivers, Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez, are not in the best shape at the start of the championship, having missed last season. Sergio hasn't even been behind the wheel of a race car, although in the second half of the year the team involved him in simulator work, while Valtteri served as a reserve driver for Mercedes in 2025. "To be honest, I think both are not in the best shape yet," Andretti admitted while participating in the Drive to Wynn podcast. "Neither of them has been behind the wheel of a race car for at least one season. So now, with Formula 1 moving to new generation technology, they are acting very cautiously. Our main task at this stage of the season is to really figure out how to fully utilize the potential of the power unit, learn how to maintain a normal charge of the hybrid system's battery, and so on. But our team is not the only one facing such problems. It seems that, except for Mercedes and Ferrari, everyone else is really dealing with the same issues; they are also learning to get the most out of their cars. Overall, it will be interesting to see how events unfold throughout the season and who can handle all of this better than the others." So far, Cadillac F1 has no points, but in Shanghai, for the first time, both of the team's cars finished the race, although they finished more than a lap behind the leaders.
