Gabriel Bortoleto: Whitley's departure was not unexpected.
On Thursday in Suzuka, Audi driver Gabriel Bortoleto acknowledged that Jonathan Whitley's departure as team principal was not unexpected for him…
Gabriel Bortoleto: "I think he couldn't fully dedicate himself to the project. He had personal matters that he spoke about publicly, and when you have personal matters to settle, that becomes a priority.
I wouldn't say I was surprised. Yes, it happened quite early, with only two races gone since the start of the season, but he was with us last year too. Jonathan did a great job; everything was going smoothly last year and at the beginning of this season. He created a good atmosphere, and we were progressing in all areas. Whitley brought a positive attitude to the team.
I believe one of the goals we strive for is that we are one team, that we act as a team, so we are not dependent on one person.
What is, is. We move on, and I am glad that Mattia Binotto is leading us in the right direction. I trust him completely. He gave me the opportunity to work in Formula 1, I am extremely grateful to him and I look forward with great optimism to what he can bring to the team by taking on more responsibility."
