Lindblad: I have been on the verge of being eliminated more than once, but it's fun!
Arvid Lindblad surprised everyone in Melbourne when he made it to the final in his debut qualifying, after which he earned his first points in the race, finishing eighth. Today in Suzuka, the Racing Bulls rookie stood out again: he outpaced Liam Lawson, his more experienced teammate, and unlike him, made it to the final session once more.
Arvid Lindblad (10th): "I had a lot of fun, although to be honest, the weekend was not easy. Due to various issues, I completely missed the second practice and part of the third, so I had no particular expectations before the qualifying began. I was told that the most important thing was to at least make it to the second part of qualifying, but now I am very happy and very grateful to the team for their great work!
It's not easy for rookies to race on this track, especially if you haven't completed enough laps, as it's very important to feel confident in the car here. But I was given a car that I am completely confident in, and now I have a reason to be proud of myself.
I think I handled things quite well in the second session. I had a lot of fun on that lap, and after the first attempt, I knew that if I did everything perfectly, I would probably have a chance to make it to the final.
Before that attempt, I told myself to think less and hope for the best. On a track like this, when you completely merge with the car, you experience real excitement! It's very hard to describe in words, as you are driving at the limit, the barriers are very close, and I was on the edge of going off several times, but it's fun!"
Liam Lawson (14th): "This weekend we have a fast car, and we were confident in all three practices, so I am disappointed that I didn't make it to the final qualifying.
The main issues were related to a broken front wing, and overall the qualifying didn't go as smoothly as we had hoped. In the first part, we initially had balance issues, but by the end, everything normalized.
Unfortunately, in the second qualifying session during the first attempt, there were difficulties with the front wing, and when we changed it, the balance shifted, and the sensations behind the wheel were quite different from those at the very beginning of the weekend. It's a shame because I think we had the potential to make it to the final.
It's not easy to overtake on this track, but there will also be challenges related to efficient energy consumption, but we are set to attack to move forward tomorrow."
