Only the cars of four teams do not have excess weight.
According to unofficial data, the cars of only four teams out of eleven approximately meet the minimum allowed weight, while the others exceed it. In the 2026 season, cars cannot weigh less than 768 kg – this is the minimum allowed threshold that teams are striving for. If a car weighs less, ballast is added, placing it in optimal locations, which improves weight distribution and positively affects balance. If a car weighs more, every extra kilogram results in a loss of time on the lap. It is generally accepted that an additional 10 kg of weight leads to a loss of about three-tenths. According to RacingNews365, only the cars of four teams – Mercedes, Ferrari, Audi, and McLaren – meet the minimum weight. Haas F1 and Alpine cars are heavier by 1-2 kg, Racing Bulls and Cadillac by 5-7 kg, Red Bull and Aston Martin by 10 kg, and the heaviest car is from Williams – 26 kg of excess weight. Reducing the weight of the car and optimizing weight distribution is one of the key tasks for the teams' engineers throughout the season.
