Alonso's son is not named as the press hastily announced.
In March, a significant event occurred in the life of Fernando Alonso, and for the third week now, the two-time world champion is experiencing the joys of fatherhood. He and his girlfriend, Spanish journalist Melissa Jimenez, welcomed a son, but the child's parents did not immediately announce what name they had chosen for him.
Subsequent events unfolded as follows: several Spanish television channels rushed to share the news during the race weekend in Suzuka that Fernando Alonso's son is named... Fernando Alonso. Moreover, some turned it into a whole show. And here the key word is "rushed," as it turned out that this was not true.
The correction was made personally by Fernando, who posted the following amusing comment on his social media pages:
"From the press, we found out that our son has some other name," Fernando writes, adding his message against the backdrop of footage from one of those TV shows that aired last week. "But we see him every day, and we still call him Leonardo!"
Moreover, to confirm this fact, Alonso shared a photo of a wonderful gift that Formula 1 presented to his family: Leonardo Alonso Jimenez already has his personal pass to the paddock for all the races of 2026.
In general, 44-year-old Fernando Alonso joined the informal club of fathers of the current world championship, becoming its fourth member: before him, Sergio Perez, Nico Hulkenberg, and Max Verstappen had welcomed children.
