Lewis Hamilton Drives a Ferrari F40 in His Latest 'Tokyo Drift' Video

      Lewis Hamilton has a passion for Tokyo's car scene, and he often shares a "video edit" of his automotive adventures while attending the Japanese Grand Prix. In the past, he has made headlines for joyriding a rented R34 Skyline GT-R around Tokyo, doing donuts and drifts whenever he could. Surprise(!), the car owners were not pleased.

      While the GT-R is undeniably a thrilling car, it pales in comparison to his vehicle of choice this year: a Ferrari F40.

      The seven-time Formula 1 champion collaborated with his regular private photographer, 13thwitness, who is also a friend of The Drive, Larry Chen, to create the approximately one-minute clip and a collection of photos. Originally, Chen's Instagram post featured some images of Hamilton's rumored new girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, but those slides have since been removed. The video, however, focuses on her face at the very end, seemingly indicating that she was the unidentified passenger throughout the ride.

      The video itself is delightful, with the rhythm of the clips and the music delivering a high-energy daydream experience. If you like the soundtrack, the song is called "Victory Lap" by Fred Again featuring Skepta and PlaqueBoyMax. I can easily imagine myself daydreaming at my desk, envisioning drifting through Tokyo in a red F40 with my partner beside me. Who wouldn't want that?

      On a serious note, it's refreshing when F1 drivers unwind and enjoy themselves like any car enthusiast would— or at least how they would if they had virtually limitless resources. The stress of being an F1 driver is immense, so whether it’s Hamilton speeding through Tokyo, Max Verstappen driving GT3 cars at the Nurburgring, or Fernando Alonso abandoning his Valkyrie after it broke down in Monaco, I love witnessing their excitement, humanity, and privilege.
