George Russell set the fastest time on the first day of testing.
The morning rain and technical issues slightly hindered the tire manufacturers' work on the first day of the latest series of prototype tire tests for 2027. Pirelli had planned to dedicate the tests to working with slicks, but after the overnight rain, the tests at the Nürburgring began on intermediate tires. However, the sun soon came out, the asphalt dried quickly, and the drivers went out on slicks. In the morning, Oscar Piastri in the McLaren and George Russell in the Mercedes completed several runs of eight laps, testing different versions of the C3 tire construction. The options deemed most promising were tested by Russell in the afternoon over a longer distance, while Piastri's car remained in the pits for most of the day due to a breakdown. Over the day, Russell completed 127 laps with a best time of 1:33.899, while Piastri completed 65 laps with a best result of 1:35.096. Tomorrow, on the second and final day of tire testing at the Nürburgring, Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli will take the wheel.
