Russell: We have ideas on how to solve the start issue.

      The first three stages of the 2026 season were memorable for the fact that Mercedes drivers regularly lost positions at the start. George Russell, who worked today on the Pirelli tests at the Nürburgring, said that the team understands why he and his teammate are losing positions at the start, and the engineers are trying to solve this problem during the April break.

      George Russell: "A huge amount of work is happening behind the scenes, but that's typical in any sport – people from the outside just don't see it. Today we had the opportunity to work on the tests, later this week we will have a filming day.

      I spend a lot of time on the simulator, the team is analyzing the information gathered from the first three races and preparing for the upcoming stages. We have two weekends with a sprint ahead in Miami and Montreal, so we continue to work with full commitment.

      Today I worked on the Pirelli tests, where we are not allowed to do anything unrelated to tire testing, such as practicing starts. But all teams are equal under the same conditions during tire tests. However, we continue to work behind the scenes, analyzing all the collected information.

      You know, Formula 1 is so complex also because we don't have the opportunity to practice a lot, but that's the rules. We are not allowed to work on the track, although we would like to conduct a huge number of starts. We have ideas about what exactly we are doing wrong during the starts, so I hope we will solve this problem."
