Kulthard: I performed at a very dangerous time

Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard believes that modern racers have lost the passion and thirst for victory that distinguished the heroes of past years.

David Coulthard: "Drivers of my generation raced in any weather. You couldn't see anything, but we kept attacking until we crashed somewhere. Today the world has become so different that races don't start because it's too wet.

I raced in a very dangerous time. I got the chance to race because the best driver of that generation died. We really understood what it meant, firstly, not to crash, and secondly, to have the luck to be in a position to win.

In my opinion, today’s drivers have lost the passion and thirst for victory that characterized the drivers of the past. Now everyone seems to think that their time to win the title will come. We had no guarantee that your time would come.

Drivers get along well with each other, travel together, and boast about their cars: 'Look at my Ferrari, look at my Lamborghini.' Partly this may be related to the fact that social media doesn't allow them to hide their private lives, as someone is always standing next to a mobile phone camera."
