Verstappen: I'm just trying to adapt to the situation.
Regarding the TV program "Evening with Max Verstappen," filmed by the Viaplay channel last Thursday, we shared insights, quoting the four-time world champion's comments about his relationship with Gianpiero Lambiasi, but of course, many other topics were also touched upon.
It's worth saying a few words about the program itself: Max performed in front of an audience for the first time from a theater stage, as everything took place in the large concert complex Theater Amsterdam in the capital of the Netherlands. There were about 900 fans in the hall, selected from among Viaplay subscribers, and on stage with the four-time world champion were his long-time acquaintances – former drivers Guido van der Garde and Tom Coronel, who collaborate with this channel as experts.
Here’s what Max said at the end of the one-and-a-half-hour show, which is now available online on Viaplay: "I liked everything absolutely. Of course, this season is not going the best way, and I am not experiencing much pleasure, but when I saw those clips (from races in different years) during the evening, I got goosebumps. Apparently, it’s sometimes worth revisiting all this to gain additional motivation..."
Naturally, during the conversation, the Red Bull Racing driver was asked about the 2026 regulations and how Formula 1 has changed this season.
"I'm just trying to adapt to the situation," Verstappen said, and the tone of his comments was rather conciliatory, with no angry notes in it. "Even if I finish my career in a few years, I want Formula 1 to remain a normal sport. Something needs to change. I would like to see the return of V10 or V8 engines...
We are negotiating with the F1 and FIA management, but the problem is that something is wrong with this regulation. They don’t want to admit it publicly, but attempts to make some adjustments demonstrate exactly that."
Since Verstappen shows a clear interest in endurance racing, he was asked what he would prefer – a fifth title in Formula 1 or to win the "24 Hours of Le Mans"?
"The fifth world championship title," Max stated categorically. "I feel that I will be able to compete for victory at Le Mans when I am a bit older. This year, winning the title is not possible, but you can race at Le Mans until you are 45."
In general, it can be concluded that Verstappen is not planning to part ways with Formula 1 just yet.
