2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Provides GTD-Level Performance at a Third of the Cost
The latest car news and reviews, no nonsense
Ford has announced the power and torque specifications for the 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC. This new supercharged GT500 successor will provide 35 additional horsepower and torque compared to the now-retired GT500, boasting 795 hp and 660 pound-feet from its supercharged 5.2-liter V8. This Mustang is incredibly fast, and notably, it is not a Shelby.
While this isn't a massive increase in power relative to the GT500, the Dark Horse SC, with nearly 800 horsepower, is already testing the limits of what can be controlled in a rear-wheel-drive street car. Additionally, with the 815-horsepower GTD setting the high-end benchmark and the standard Dark Horse on the opposite end, there is limited room for the SC in terms of performance and pricing. As previously revealed, the $105,485 Dark Horse SC is significantly more expensive than the standard Dark Horse but only about a third of the GTD price.
This trend extends throughout the lineup. Although the Dark Horse and SC are not on the same level as the GTD, Ford states they are still designed as track-oriented Mustangs. The SC's Track Pack includes Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and 20-inch carbon fiber wheels.
This modification significantly reduces unsprung weight at the corners. It also removes the rear seat and replaces the standard summer tires with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Rs, making it not only 150 pounds lighter but also substantially more grippy. All of this is in addition to what is included in the standard Dark Horse package.
“Aerodynamics and cooling have been specifically engineered to match the Dark Horse SC’s supercharged V8’s extreme capabilities,” Ford mentioned while announcing the power specifications. “The Dark Horse SC is equipped with a new aluminum hood featuring a prominent carbon fiber vent which produces 2.5 times the downforce of the regular Dark Horse model when the rain tray is removed.”
Shelby is still engaged with the Mustang scene. Although the licensing agreement between Carroll’s estate and Ford has lapsed, Shelby American—an entirely independent entity—continues to manufacture high-performance Fords, albeit at a high cost.
Orders for the 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC are currently open, with deliveries expected to start in the summer.
