The future Mercedes-Benz C-Class has just been unveiled, and it’s bound to elicit strong reactions, whether love or hate.
On Sunday, the 2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class was introduced featuring an electric powertrain, setting the stage for the next generation of the model with nearly 400 miles of range, advanced electrical architecture, true fast charging capabilities, and an optional fullscreen dashboard. It offers a lot of everything. For those not keen on an electric powertrain, a gasoline variant of the next-gen C-Class, likely with a different overall styling, will be launched later.

A brief look at the new C-Class clearly shows it’s a Mercedes-Benz showcasing the brand's latest design elements. The front has stars integrated into the headlights and a vertically oriented grille reminiscent of the W126 era, which can also be illuminated with 1,050 light points. Vast air intakes flank the front bumper, designed as a single piece. The A-pillars are angled back for aerodynamic efficiency, while the rear features a sleek drop for improved airflow. A full-width red panel on the back accommodates the LED taillights, which also incorporate stars. Many of the key lighting and design features are taken from the electric GLC-Class, the SUV sibling of the C-Class.

Inside, the electric C-Class resembles the electric GLC-Class closely. The standout feature is the impressive pillar-to-pillar display that constitutes the entire dashboard. Dubbed the Hyperscreen, it consists of a single piece of glass measuring 39.1 inches. If the Hyperscreen isn’t chosen, there will be three individual screens housed beneath one sheet of glass, featuring a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 14-inch touchscreen for the passenger, all part of what Mercedes labels as its Superscreen setup. The center console boasts two cupholders and two wireless phone chargers, as well as space for a small bag underneath. The vents come with nubs, there’s a physical volume knob, and, naturally, real stalks are included. Looking up reveals an optional glass roof that can transition between clear and opaque, adorned with 162 embedded illuminated stars.

The electric C-Class utilizes the same running gear as the electric GLC-Class, which is beneficial. This means it features a dual-motor setup (one motor on each axle) generating 482 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, distributed to all four wheels through a 2-speed transmission. It is powered by a 94-kWh (usable) battery. Performance is expected to be comparable to a V8-powered C-Class from a different era bearing the AMG badge, even if this electric C-Class doesn’t carry that branding. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.98 seconds, with a top speed electronically capped at 130 mph. An available rear-wheel steering system allows for an angle of up to 4.5 degrees in the rear, reducing the turning radius to 36.7 feet, while the air suspension is designed to smooth the ride, aided by Google Maps integration.
The 2-speed transmission is a notable feature, enhancing efficiency as part of the automaker's electric lineup. Official range figures haven’t been released and will only be available closer to the launch date, but anticipate a range just under 400 miles.
When the battery depletes, the electric C-Class can recharge rapidly via a fast charger with a peak rate of 325 kW, able to go from 10-80% in 22 minutes, potentially adding around 200 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
Mercedes has not disclosed pricing for the electric C-Class, which is expected to arrive in the first half of 2027.
